The Society's main object is to act as a Learned Society to promote interdisciplinary academic enterprise in creating, upgrading and sustaining facilities for housing, health care, education, industrial production, commerce, retailing, utilities, communication and transportation.

In support of this object, the Society will:

  1. Promote, support and conduct interdisciplinary research, studies and other enquiries into creating, upgrading and sustaining facilities and seek grants, awards, fellowships, scholarships or other financial assistance from central and local government or other public bodies and place the results in the UK public domain.
  2. Promote the use and uptake of research results and knowledge in public and political forums so as to influence policy and practice by providing advice and informed opinion on creating, upgrading and sustaining facilities.
  3. Publish or sponsor academic journals related to creating, upgrading and sustaining facilities.
  4. Print, publish, issue and circulate papers, periodicals, books, circulars and data related to creating, upgrading and sustaining facilities.
  5. Organise and hold meetings, conferences, lectures, exhibitions, displays and demonstrations and make like arrangements for the dissemination of information related to creating, upgrading and sustaining facilities.
  6. Encourage, and provide amenities for, discussion and consultation between any institution and any other body with an interest in creating, upgrading and sustaining facilities.
  7. Encourage and support the exchange of information and ideas among the members of the Society and others in related fields and diffuse information on significant matters related to creating, upgrading and sustaining facilities.
  8. Encourage and support the discovery of, and investigate and make known the nature and merits of, inventions, discoveries, practices and procedures and provide information and advice on same to further the efficiency and effectiveness of creating, upgrading and sustaining facilities.
