Adopting standards can prevent failures

Members will be no doubt be pleased to learn that the Society is recognised by British Standards Institution as a representative body in the facilities management field. As such, it is represented on BSI's FMW/1 Technical Committee for Facilities Management by Brian Atkin, Director of the Society.

Other bodies with representation on the committee include The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM).

An important function for a representative body is to seek the opinions of its members on proposed and emerging standards, including commenting on advanced drafts of new standards. When a relevant standard has reached the public consultation stage, we shall publish a short article to explain how you can comment on it.
